What is the Cosmelan® Peel & how does it work?

Is a Cosmelan® treatment painful?

When the peel is applied to can be itchy and tingle then it settles. During the downtime you can experience sensitivity, inflammation and redness which settles after a day or two.

Is a patch test required for the Cosmelan®?​

No patch test is required​

Will my skin peel? 

 

Yes however the peeling can differ from person to person. Some may experience minor flaking of the skin while others may experience more peeling

How do I prepare for my Cosmelan®? 

​

Pre treatment 2 weeks before avoid:

Waxing/ hair removal/ bleaching

Hydroquinone - 6 months before

Cold sores 2 weeks before

​You are unable to have treatment if you have any active infections, active psoriasis,  eczema or dermatitis in the treatment ar

Post treatment guidelines - avoid:

Waxing/Hair removal/Bleaching - Up to 3 months

(Hair removal post treatment will be subject to area and downtime)

Treatments of stimulation - 6 months post

Exercise and heat treatments - Up to 3 weeks

(This will be dependant of downtime and the type of exercise)

Active ingredients (unprescribed) - 6 months post

Contraindications

​

Cosmelan® is contraindicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding, acute/untreated hormonal disorders (e.g untreated thyroid disease, advanced organ disease (e.g. renal/hepatic failure), allergy to the substance or materials necessary for the procedure, severe autoimmune disease, immunosuppression, active infection and Body Dismorphic Disorder (BDD).

What is the Cosmelan® Peel process?

 

Step 1 - Book your appointment, your first appointment will be a consultation 

Step 2 - Come in for your consultation where your skin will be assessed, your aesthetician will talk you through the whole process and you will be given a pre kit to use for 4 weeks before your actual Cosmelan® peel 

Step 3 - You will return to the spa 4 weeks later for your Cosmelan® peel 

Step 4 - The peel takes 15 - 20 minutes and it will be left on your skin. Your aesthetician will let you know when to wash the peel off and give you your aftercare kit 

Step 5 - You wash the peel off at home and start using your aftercare products 

Step 6 - You will continue to use the aftercare products for 6 months and have follow up consultations

Is there any downtime?

 

There is 7 days downtime 

 

 

How long will it take to see results?

 

Results can be seen after the 7 days and will continue to improve for the next 6 months
