DERMAL FILLER FAQ
Dermal Fillers are a non-surgical injectable treatments that help to enhance, restore, lift and smoothen your appearance. They boost the skin’s supply of hyaluronic acid, a substance that our bodies naturally produce, its a sugar-based substance that keeps the skin hydrated and nourished.
This instantly adds volume to the skin while diminishing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Dermal fillers are injected into the skin at different depths by trained medical professionals to help fill in facial wrinkles, restore lost volume, target signs of ageing and improving the general quality of the skin.

Is the treatment painful?
Prior to treatment you are numbed with hospital grade numbing cream and also injected with filler that contains lidocaine for extra comfort. Most people feel a slight pressure and slight scratching sensation from the fine needle used. If you are sensitive to pain you can get EMLA numbing cream from the Pharmacy and apply this in a very thick layer 15 minutes prior to your appointment for extra comfort. You can also take paracetamol 30 minutes before your appointment.

This is a non-surgical treatment carried out with a fine needles discomfort will be felt which then quickly settles.

How long will my results last?
​
Typically 6 months to a year however the longevity of the dermal fillers depends on factors such as:
Density of the filler used
Injection area
Client's metabolism
The hyaluronic acid breaks down and is absorbed into the skin after around 6 to 12 months

How soon will I see my results?
Results are seen immediately, some initial swelling may also be seen which subsides within 24-48 hours
​
How long will my results last?
​
Your results on the face lasts for around 3 - 4 months, results on the body to treat excessive sweating lasts 4 - 6 months. We advise all of our clients to have their Bo-tox face treatment done approximately 3 - 4 times a year & body treatment 2 - 3 times a year.

What can I expect straight after my treatment?
​
Immediately after the treatment, clients may experience redness, swelling or tenderness around the area that has been treated which is completely normal. They may also experience raised or inflamed skin as well as itching in the treatment area. These side effects are completely natural and tend to subside in one to two days for the vast majority of clients who experience them. On rare occasions, patients may also bruise. However, all of these symptoms will gradually disappear over a period of 7-14 days.

What are the possible side affects?

Some of the side effects which are associated with Fillers are short-lived and mild, the most common being redness, swelling, mild bruising and soreness on the site of the injection.

Is it a safe treatment?
Dermal fillers are safe when administered by an experienced and qualified practitioner. The FDA has approved a range of dermal filler brands for cosmetic use, we only use approved fillers and all treatments at our spa are carried out by qualified practitioners. However, as medical substances, they do come with a range of side effects including: skin rashes, redness, bruising, itching and swelling. Medically trained practitioners are adept at applying dermal fillers in a strategic way to avoid the chances of these side effects from occurring.

Can Dermal Fillers be removed?
​
Hyaluronic acid fillers such as the ones we use, can be quickly dissolved using an enzyme known as hyaluronidase. This acts to disperse hyaluronic acid, speeding up the natural breakdown of the dermal filler.
What is the aftercare for Dermal Fillers

When cleansing, avoid pressure and use gentle strokes away from the eyes.

Avoid facial massages or electrical stimulation of the face for the next 2 weeks.

Avoid wearing tight caps or garments in the area that has been injected.

Avoid alcohol, caffeine and exposure to UV and extreme heat i.e. sauna, steam, sun beds, very hot showers, strenuous exercise etc for 24 hours

Avoid exercise, hot baths or showers for 24 hours

Do not rub or massage the treated area

Do not have any other treatments in the same area for 2 weeks

What is the difference between Botox and Dermal Fillers?
​
Both treatments involve injections, but Botox relaxes muscle movement that results in wrinkles while Dermal Fillers simply plump out and smooth wrinkles. These treatments can also be combined.
